Rare first editions, first issue, with all typographical errors mentioned by M. Brun (on f. 3 "Louis Bouilhet" instead of "A. Louis Bouilhet", on f. 4 "Sénart" instead of "Sénard", p. 7, line 23 with a great space between "la" and "posa", f. 3 with MS paraphe above left). Without the publisher’s advertisement at the end of vol. I present in part of the edition. Very broad-margined, fresh copy of the author’s famous debut novel in an elegant fine half morocco bindings of c. 1890 with the green printed original wrappers bound in. With important provenance: 1. Charles Lormier (1825-1900) from Flaubert’s home town Rouen (manuscript). – 2. From the extensive Florence library of Baron Horace de Landau (1824-1903), eminent French banker representing the Rothschild bank in Turin, helping to finance the efforts for Italian independence (bookplate).
